Sapporo Nodal Office of the Global Land Project

Background

The GLP Sapporo Nodal Office is an initiative of the Sustainability Governance Project (SGP) of Hokkaido University. SGP leads the University’s Sustainability Science program. The overarching goal of Sustainability Science is improving human wellbeing whilst reducing the risk to the Earth System.

Land Change Science (LCS) is devoted to sustainability themes, with the assessment of system outcomes such as vulnerability, resilience and sustainability as its fundamental component. The GLP aims to improve our understanding of the critical pathways of change in the land system, how vulnerability and resilience of the land system vary in response to changes in human-environment interactions, and how different institutions influence decision-making and governance for land system sustainability.

The Sapporo Nodal Office was set up to assist the GLP IPO in this task. It organizes focused workshops and seminars, capacity building and enhancement programs, and policy-relevant symposia. Outputs of the project are communicated through Journals, Newsletters and other relevant media.
